What helped me recover and grow

I have always been an active person but growing up never performed any sport or training systematically, meaning that I never had a routine for running, training, meditating etc. but it always was part of my todo list.

I always wanted to make running part of me, a habit of me that I cannot easily skip, make training and meditation part of my day, but it was mostly a ‘desire’ and never turned into ‘action’. Well! and this item on my ’todo’ list that was so hard to make into habit always bothered me.
Now, I can say it has happened, and for me sport is not longer an ‘effort’ is one big ‘fun’ part of my life, a natural piece that sounds like I had lost and now discovered again.
But when did it start? how did I become this running and gym enthusiast that I am today?
It was 2011 and I was always sick! and had pain all over my mind and body! I had pain in my shoulders, my neck, my back, I had regular headaches, I had anxiety, stress, and I couldn’t sleep.
Staring 2012 I went on a long sick leave to recover from all this, and that was when to fill in my days I started going to gym some days even 3 sessions per day: yoga, dance, core exercises, and running.
In 2013 I was lucky enough to move to an apartment that had gym facilities. I got a personal trainer and started leaning more about eating healthier, and training smarter, and that was the beginning of me and weights!
I remember when I started doing bench-press I could barely move the empty bar! now I can easily add two 10 kilos. I know it’s not much, but for me it’s great! it’s a tangible sign of improvement! and that my body (and my mind) is becoming stronger each and every day!
Running became part of me in 2015, and I had my first running competition, add 10 K run- mid night Gothenburg run (midnattsloppet)- in Aug 2015. Great fun!
I was lucky to have friends and colleagues around me that was also running enthusiasts! not uprising right? considering that I live in Sweden. Running has helped me to release stress, to make new friends, to feel free, to enjoy the nature, to have fun exercise with my little dog Tasha, to breathe and to get out, get out no matter what! yes! I run outside, all this, I don’t think would have happen if I was running on a treadmill.
Well, you can guess that all my pains are gone! no such headaches, no back and neck and shoulder pain, and after running and a gym session, I sleep like a baby!
There are still steps that I am taking, things that I am learning, both to become a stronger person and to deal with my anxiety even better, the anxiety that have been with me since childhood. But more about that later!
